CME in Anantnag highlights integrated, multidisciplinary approach to cancer management

Anantnag, September 26: PARAS Health Srinagar organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme in Anantnag, bringing together leading clinicians and specialists to deliberate on the evolving landscape of cancer care and the importance of timely access to advanced, multidisciplinary treatment.

Titled “Integrating Cancer Management: From Easy Access to Advanced Care – PARAS Experience,” the CME focused on strengthening clinical collaboration, early diagnosis and seamless referral pathways, while highlighting the growing availability of specialised oncology services closer to patients in South Kashmir.

The programme was attended by senior faculty from Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag and leading specialists from PARAS Health Srinagar. Dr Shaikh Mohd Ismail, Physician and former Director, J&K Health Department, was the Chief Guest, while Dr Mannohan Singh, Dr Saika Shafi, Dr Mashkoor Beigh and Dr Shahid Bashir Wani were the Guests of Honour.

Specialists from Surgical Oncology, Medical Oncology, Surgical Gastroenterology, Interventional Radiology and Clinical Haematology & Bone Marrow Transplant shared clinical perspectives and discussed the role of coordinated, multidisciplinary care in improving cancer outcomes.

Dr Murtuza Habib, Facility Director, PARAS Health Srinagar, said the initiative reflects PARAS Health’s commitment to taking specialised healthcare closer to communities. “Cancer care today demands more than individual specialities—it requires coordination, timely diagnosis, advanced technology and a strong multidisciplinary team. Through such academic engagements, we aim to strengthen clinical networks and make advanced cancer care more accessible to patients across Kashmir, particularly in regions where timely access can make a significant difference.”

Dr Shafat Ahmad Kenu, Medical Superintendent, PARAS Health Srinagar, said continuous knowledge-sharing between clinicians is essential for building stronger healthcare systems. “CME programmes create an important platform for doctors to exchange clinical experiences, discuss evolving treatment approaches and strengthen referral pathways. Our objective is to ensure that patients receive the right care at the right time, with continuity from diagnosis to advanced treatment and follow-up.”

The CME also underlined the importance of closer collaboration between tertiary-care specialists and doctors working at the district level, enabling patients to access expert guidance without unnecessary delays.

The programme concluded with an emphasis on continued academic collaboration and strengthening the continuum of cancer care across Jammu and Kashmir.
