Patwari Convicted By Baramulla Court In Bribery Case

Srinagar, Feb 28, : A special Anti-Corruption Court Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara, convicted Revenue official, in a bribery case of the year 2006 and sentenced the accused for imprisonment of two years rigorous combined with fine.

 According to news agency a written complaint was filed by one, Khurshid Ahmed Resident of Sagipora, Sopore in Baramulla district on 10th October 2006 alleging that the Patwari concerned, Ghulam Mohammad Kumar resident of Behrampora, Banipora, Sopore, is demanding rupees 5,000 as bribe to make some necessary corrections in the revenue records and as the initial installment, 2,500 rupees was agreed upon to be paid to him on the said date.

According to sources, after receiving the complaint, a trap was set by the team of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) and caught the accused red handed while receiving the amount of the bribe and the tainted was recovered from his possession. The accused was arrested and a FIR under No. 39/2006 of P/S VOK under section 5(1)d r/w 5(2) JK P C Act and 161 RPC and further investigations was taken up.   

After completing the investigation and legal formalities, ACB produced the challan in the court of Special Anti Corruption Judge Baramulla Naseer Ahmed Dar. The judge convicted the accused Ghulam Mohammad Kumar on Thursday and sentenced him to two years rigorous imprisonment combined with a fine of 10,000 rupees, under each offence.

Immediately after the sentence was pronounced, the accused was lodged in sub-jail as per the orders of the court reported news agency CNS.
