Poonch, Mar 16: Incumbent Peoples Democratic Party Chief Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday paid obeisance and offered ‘jal’ (holy water) to a deity at a temple in Poonch. The unusual move by Mufti attracted a widespread and mixed response from netizens including from BJP J&K Spokesperson Altaf Thakur.

A picture of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti offering ‘jal’ (holy water) to the feet of Lord Shiva in a temple in Poonch district of Jammu region went viral on different social media platforms.

The picture attracted the attention of social media users who in turn gave their mixed response on the still.

Reacting to it, BJP J&K Spokesperson wrote in a social media post; “This is the change post-Article 370 rollback. She is the same person who would say nobody will pick up Tiranga if Article 370 is revoked. She at the feet of Lord Shiva indeed is a welcome change. “Kuch tou zaroor badla hai,” he said.

Some social media users termed it a positive move towards the unity, peace, prosperity for the Jammu and Kashmir and especially for National politics while others took an exception to the ‘strict’ character portrayed by Mehbooba Mufti over a long time now.

Seemingly in a bid to clear the air, the PDP Chief herself said; “This temple was built by Yashpal Sharma, and his son wanted me to go inside the temple. After that, somebody gave me a vessel containing water, so it would have been wrong to deny it, so I offered prayers at the Navagraha temple in Poonch.”
