Valedictory function of one week training programme under Advanced Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programme (ESDP) on Pashmina Spinning Using Innovative Charkha was held at Hotel The Grand Dragon, Leh today on 26th October 2023.
Sh Stanzin Chosphel Honble Executive councillor (Agriculture) LAHDC Leh was the chief guest of the function. Prof. (Dr.) Dil Muhammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension Co Patron and Prof. Haroon Naik, Director Research/ Director Planning and Monitoring SKUAST K Shalimar the chief patron were the guest of honour on the occasion.
Other dignitaries present were Sh. Tsewang Phuntsog, Director Horticulture LAHDC Leh, Prof. Deldan Namgyal, I/C Associate Director (R&E), HMAARI SKUAST-K Leh, Dr. Phuntsog Tundup Programme Coordinator KVK Nyoma.
Welcoming the guests Dr F.D. Sheikh Professor and Head KVK Leh gave an overview of the training and thanked Honble Vice Chancellor Prof. N. A. Ganai SKUAST-K and Prof Haroon N Naik for giving an opportunity for providing skill development to the educated un employed youth of Ladakh by sanctioning the training programme under Advanced ESDP, sponsored by Ministyr of MSME.
During the programme, he informed the dignitaries that the trainees were imparted with hands on training on Dehairing, Sorting, Spinning using innovative Charkha, weaving, dying and processing of pashmina during the said period through different experts for sheep department, bank, artisan and staff of SKUAST-K.
They were also taken on an exposure tour dehairing centre Leh and various industrial outlets selling pashmina products.
Prof. (Dr.) Dil M Makhdhoomi, Director Extension SKUAST-K while speaking on the occasion informed the gathering that Govt. of India is stressing on formation of FPOs but that will be possible if the un employed youths attains skill pertaining to local raw material, traditions,local avaliabilty of food products etc.
Since Ladakh is known for various incredible indigenous animals like Yak, Double humped camel, Zanskari horse and Pashmina goats, so exploring various products from such animals may give opportunities to the youths of region to start various enterprises.
Prof. Haroon N. Naik, the Chief Patron congratulated the entire team of KVK Leh for successfull completion of the training programme. He lauded Dr. F.D. Sheikh for the release of the compendium of the training programme which was first of its kind from the all the sanctioned ESDP programmes.
He briefed that Ministry of MSME generally used to provide support to IITs, NITs and IIMs but for the first time they granted support financing Skill Development training in agriculture that to SKUAST-K only.
Last year MSME sanctioned 66 skill trainings, but this year it has been increased to 550 trainings. He urged to youths to take advantage of such trainings in future also for setting up their business.
Sh Stanzin Chosphel Honble Executive councillor (Agriculture) LAHDC Leh congratulated Dr F.D. Sheikh and team of KVK Leh for initiating such trainings in Leh and asked the participants to take up entrepreneurship after gaining skills from such trainings as the Ministry of MSME GOI is initiating lots of lucrative schemes especially in skill development.
He said that LAHDC Leh is ready to finance any entrepreneur willing to work in Pashmina line with charkha and other incentives if they will submit a detail project report.
Dr. Deldan Namgyal, I/C Associate Director (R&E) HMAARI SKUAST-K Leh and Sh. Tsewang Phunchok, Director Horticulture also spoke on the occasion.
Four pamphlets of KVK and compendium of the training were released during the occasion. Certificates were also distributed to the trainees.
