NEW DELHI, August 14: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has expressed deep concern and solidarity with the people of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir, who have been severely affected by a devastating cloudburst followed by flash flooding.
Taking to social media platform X, the Prime Minister conveyed his heartfelt sympathy for those caught in the calamity. “My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the cloudburst and flooding in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir. The situation is being monitored closely. Rescue and relief operations are underway. Every possible assistance will be provided to those in need,” he posted.
According to officials, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local administration have been deployed to the affected areas, working round the clock to rescue stranded residents and deliver relief materials.
Sources in the Prime Minister’s Office said that the central government is in constant touch with the Jammu and Kashmir administration, ensuring swift coordination for relief measures. Medical teams, emergency shelters, and essential supplies have already been mobilised, with additional resources ready to be dispatched if required.
The cloudburst, which struck on Wednesday night, triggered flash floods in several parts of Kishtwar, damaging homes, roads, and infrastructure. While the full extent of the damage is still being assessed, preliminary reports indicate significant losses to property and disruption of normal life.
The Prime Minister’s message of support comes as the region battles both the immediate impact of the disaster and the challenging task of rebuilding in its aftermath.
