Handwara, August 20: Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh on Thursday said that police is also investigating the Shopian encounter in which Rajouri families claimed their three sons were allegedly killed.
As per Kashmir Despatch Correspondent, DGP while addressing a press conference at Handwara said that since some doubts have regarding the veracity of Shopian encounter surfaced in the media the army took an immediate cognizance and has already initiated a court of inquiry and the families of those missing have also been called to give their statements before it.
“The families of three missing Rajouri labourers have also been called to give their statements as how, when, and where from their ones have gone missing. The army has also appleaded the general public to cooperate and come forward to depose before the court of inquiry with any kind of information with regard to this incident,”.
As far as the police is concerned, The DGP said that a parallel investigation led by a gazetted officer into this encounter has already been launched and is in progress.
“We have already taken DNA samples for matching. I assure you that there will be a free and fair probe into this encounter which has generated some misgivings among the public.,”he added.
