Police arrests 5 drug peddlers, contraband substances recovered

Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police have arrested 5 drug peddlers in Baramulla, Sopore & Ganderbal and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Baramulla, a police party led by Incharge Police Post Delina under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Shri Sajjad Bukhari-JKPS at a checkpoint established at Khushalpora Delina intercepted a vehicle (Scorpio) bearing registration number JK01AS-5295 drive by one person. During checking, officers were able to recover 10 grams of Cocaine & 15 grams of Charas like substances from his possession. He has been identified as Jaleel Ahmad Shah son of Nazir Ahmad Shah resident of Kanispora. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

It is pertinent to mention that during the past 4 months, Police in Baramulla have registered 115 cases under NDPS Act, arrested 156 drug peddlers including 10 most wanted drug smugglers, detained 9 drug peddlers under PSA and recovered contraband substances worth crores (value of contraband in black market).

In Sopore, a police party of Police Station Panzla during naka checking at Bagat Colony Rohama intercepted two suspicious persons. During checking, 113 grams of Charas like substance were recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Muhammad Lateef Lone son of Muhammad Sultan Lone and Aadil Ahmad Lone son of Muhammad Rajab Lone both residents of Naidhal Rafiabad. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

In Ganderbal, a police party of PP Shadipora during patrolling near Satkreeri intercepted a vehicle (Wagnor) bearing registration number DL2CAK-3882 with two persons on board. During checking, contraband substances were recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Gh Mohammad Ahanger son of Gh Ahmad Ahanger resident of Nesbal and Irfan Ahmad Bhat son of Gh Nabi Bhat resident of Kharbagh. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
