Srinagar, Sep 3: Police in Jammu and Kashmir have attached two buildings, six shops, and two kanals of land belonging to the proscribed Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) in Sopore, officials said on Thursday.
The action was taken under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act following an investigation into a case registered at Police Station Sopore, they said.
“FIR No. 42/2025 was lodged under Sections 10 and 13 of the UA(P) Act. During the probe, the properties were found linked to the banned organisation,” a police spokesperson told KNS.
The Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, on August 12, 2026, notified the premises — Islamia Model School, Dooru, which has remained closed since 2022, along with six shops and two kanals of land — under Section 8(1) of the UA(P) Act, the official said.
Subsequently, the District Magistrate, Baramulla, issued orders under Sections 8(3) and 8(4) of the Act on the request of Sopore Police. A police team, accompanied by the Executive Magistrate, carried out the physical attachment on the ground, the spokesperson added.
The police said the action was part of sustained efforts to identify and proceed against properties and assets linked to proscribed organisations and their networks. (KNS)
