SRINAGAR, Apr 3: Police on Monday evening claimed to have busted Prostitution racket in Bagh-e-Mehtab area of Srinagar district.

Srinagar police in a tweet said that eight persons including four local female sex workers were arrested in Srinagar. A case has been registered and further investigation has been taken up, police said.

“A prostitution racket in a rented accommodation at Bagh-e-Mehtab busted. 2 persons running this arrested, Irshad Ahmad Bhat of Pampore, Mohd Shafi Hajam of Karimabad Pulwama. 4 female sex workers (all locals of Srinagar) & 2 customers detained. FIR registered at chanpura PS,” Srinagar police tweeted.

Sources in the police told Kashmir Despatch that on the basis of a specific information a prostitution racket was busted.  According to sources in the police this Sex racket was being run by Irshad Ahmad Bhat son of Shaban Bhat resident of Kadalbal Pampore, Mohammad Shafi Hajam son of Abdul Qayoom Hajam resident of Karim Abad  Pulwama and others.

The premises were raided by Chanpora Police station today, falling in the area of Bagh-e-Mehtab. Both the persons were arrested on spot further four sex workers and two customers (all 6 being locals of Srinagar) were also detained for questioning.

The whole racket was run from a rented house owned by one Altaf Hussain Afaqi son of Asadullah Afaqi resident of Chanapora. Sources in the police said that FIR NO.19/2023 u/s 3,4,8 of Immoral Trafficking Act has been registered at Chanapora Police Station. “Further as the house owner had not done tenant verification of the tenants, he is also likely to be booked,” sources claimed.

The police has also requested the people to do tenant verification if they have given their Houses/rooms/shops on rent.
