Police present chargesheet against Yasin Malik in Baramulla court

Date:

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police have presented chargesheet against Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Yasin Malik in the Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Baramulla, in two cases registered against him in Police Station Sumbal.

Police presented a charge sheet against Muhammad Yasin Malik in front of the judge Sanjay Parihar, through video link in the cases registered at Sumbal police station, a local news gathering agency Current News Service reported.

Mr. Malik was booked by the Sumbal police in 2008 and 2010 for holding pro-independence rallies and gatherings in Sumbal town.

On June 30, prior to the filing of charge sheet against him, the JKLF chief had applied for a production warrant for him, through video conferencing.

On Thursday, Yasin Malik, who is currently lodged in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail was produced in court via video conferencing.

He was told that a charge sheet has been filed against him. According to South Asian Wire, the court informed that he has the right to have a lawyer of his choice, in response to which he said that he would plead the case himself.

Since cases against JKLF chairman have been registered outside Jammu and Kashmir, the court directed the Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Baramulla, to provide counsel for Yasin Malik to appear before him so that this case could be heard.
