BARAMULLA, Dec 20:
Police have registered an FIR in connection with a landslide incident that occurred in Khanpora area of Baramulla on December 19, allegedly triggered by illegal stone quarrying activities in the area.
According to police, unauthorized extraction of stones had weakened the slope, resulting in a sudden slide of earth and debris. The landslide created panic among local residents as it posed a serious threat to human life and raised apprehensions of damage to both public and private property.
Upon receiving information about the incident, a police team immediately reached the spot, assessed the situation, and took necessary measures to prevent any further risk. Officials said that timely intervention ensured that no loss of life was reported in the incident.
Taking cognizance of the matter, Police Station Baramulla has registered a case vide FIR No. 219/2025 under relevant provisions of law. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident and to identify those responsible for the illegal quarrying activities.
Police have reiterated that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in unlawful mining or quarrying that endangers public safety and the environment. Authorities have also stressed their commitment to ensuring public safety and curbing illegal activities across the district.
