Policeman, two others booked for rape of 13-year-old in Qazigund

SRINAGAR, April 7: In a shocking incident, a policeman and two others have been booked for rape of a 13-year-old girl in Qazigund. 

The accused and the girl’s family were neighboring tenets at Bunigam Qazigund, Irshad Reshi, SHO Qazigund told Kashmir Despatch.

He added that the mother of the 13-year-old victim narrated that the girl suffered from abdominal pain, and when they took her to primary health center Qazigund, “the Doctors declared her pregnant”.

According to the preliminary medical report, the 13-year-old victim is four months pregnant.  

“The three accused used to visit the rented accommodation of the said lady regularly (Kifayat-Ul-Lah, a policeman; two civilians, Zahoor Ahmad, Aijaz Ahmad) and in the meantime have indulged in rape of the minor girl,” SHO police station Qazigund informed Kashmir Despatch.

The police have registered a case against the three accused under FIR Number 61/2021. Under section. 376.D. and 342. Of Indian Penal Code, called POSCO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences).

Adding further, SHO Qazigund told Kashmir Despatch, “All the three accused have been taken into custody. It has not been established yet as to who amongst the three accused has impregnated the minor girl but further investigation and DNA samples would bring everything to light.”   

However, the girl has been relinquished into the custody of her legal guardians and is currently being regularly counseled by Child Welfare Committee.

Giving details of the  case, SHO Qazigund said that in her compliant the mother of the minor victim has said that a lady namely Shabroza wife of Mushtaq Ahmad Itoo resident of Gamjan at present living in a hired accommodation at Bounigam Qazigund was living in her neighborhood where her daughter used to go on a routine basis.

“The three accused including a policeman Kifayat-Ul-Lah resident of Budroo Yaripora, Zahoor Ahmad resident of Bihibrara Yaripora and the third one a physically challenged person namely Aijaz Ahmad resident of Devsar used to visit the hired residence of Shabroza regularly and in the meantime used to rape the minor girl,” the SHO Qazigund informed Kashmir Despatch.

He said the lady who had hired the accommodation has also been detained and all of the four accused are being questioned under police remand.

Meanwhile, the accused policeman has been put under suspension and the concerned police station is investigating the matter in full swing.

“What is to become of the case and child in her womb, is yet to unfold,” said a doctor working in Qazigund hospital.
