President’s address read in local Shina language during Republic Day function in snow clad Gurez valley

Dawar, 26 Jan: The people of Gurez and Snow Leoprad Brigade celebrated the 71st Republic Day function with great fervor and enthusiasm in Dawar tehsil headquarters of border valley of Gurez in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Highly spirited residents of Gurez came out in large numbers to celebrate the Republic Day despite heavy snow and sub zero temperature. 

The National Flag was unfurled in presence of locals, civil administration, 

J & K Police Personnel, BSF and GREF in the snow clad Gurez Valley in a colorful ceremony organised by Dawar Battalion. 

Students from various schools of Gurez proudly presented astounding cultural programme on the occasion. The patriotic songs and dance presented by the energetic youth were cherished and enjoyed by one and all present. 

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Commander Snow Leopard Brigade appreciated the locals of Gurez for their resolute support to the security forces. 

The Chief Guest appreciated the efforts of the local population for marching in stride with the nation during the turbulent times in Kashmir and working towards the progress of the astonishingly beautiful Gurez Valley and the country. 

He also highlighted that it was on this day in 1950, the power of people got a constitutional recognition. President’s address to the nation was also read out in Shina Language. 

Towards the end, 11 students of various schools were awarded with Peer Baba Scholarships for their outstanding performance in the field of academics and sports during the last year. 

39 Ex-Servicemen and widows of service personnel of Gurez were felicitated for their reckonable service to the nation during the grand celebration by the Dawar Battalion. 

In a special message, the village elders and the local leaders thanked the Dawar Battalion for the assistance provided in the avalanche hit Purana Tulail area and timely evacuating the critically injured and organising the republic day celebrations.
