Prominent Shia Cleric Moulana Abbas Ansari dies at 86

Hundreds attend funeral at Zaidbal

SRINAGAR, Oct 25: A prominent Shia cleric of Kashmir, Maulana Abbas Ansari, passed away on Tuesday after a brief spell of illness. He was 86.

Ansari was not keeping well for quite some time, and over the couple of days his health had deteriorated. Family sources said that Ansari breathed his last at his residence in Nawakadal area of Srinagar Tuesday morning.

Notably, Ansari was admitted to SKIMS Soura recently after he developed certain health related issues.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people from all walks of life assembled at Zadibal area of Srinagar to offer funeral prayers of Ansari. Amid moist eyes, many prominent Shia and Suni scholars participated in the funeral.

Who Was Abbas Ansari:

Born in 1936, Ansari, was a scholar, preacher and reformer. He did his schooling from Srinagar and shifted to Lucknow for higher education and then to Najaf in Iran where he spent eight years. He was a scholar of authority on Islamic jurisprudence, Arabic literature, Hadith and Quranic exegesis.

After his return from Iraq, Ansari founded the Ittihadul Muslimeen (Muslim Unity) in 1962.

Aga Syed Hassan Al-Mosvi Al-Safvi condoles demise:

Anjuman-e-Share-Shian president Aga Syed Hassan Al-Mosvi Al-Safvi while expressing his deep shock and grief over the demise of Abbas Anasri said that Kashmir has lost a great religious scholar and a political leader. “Kashmir and its people needed leaders like Abbas sahib but death keeps no calendar. Today, he left this world. We will miss him forever,” he said and prayed for the highest standards for the departed soul in Janah—(KNO)

Altaf Bukhari pays glowing tributes

Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of veteran Kashmiri leader Molvi Abbas Ansari, who passed away after protracted illness at his residence in Khankhai Sokhta Nawakadal Srinagar this morning.

In his condolence message, Bukhari said, “I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing away of Molvi Abbas Ansari Sahib. Today, we have lost a great religious leader who spent his entire life serving people and contributing to society. He was a reformist and contributed to the education sector as well.”

He added, “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved kith and kin of Molvi Sahib, and I pray to Almighty Allah to give them enough strength to bear the pain of this inconsolable and irreparable loss. May Almighty Allah rest the departed soul in eternal peace.” He further said, “In this hour of grief, Apni party stands in solidarity with the bereaved.”

Agha S.A Razvi Condoles Demise of Ansrai

Executive Councilor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (Administration of Union Territory of Ladakh) with portfolios of PWD, Industries and Commerce, Fisheries, Information Cooperative on Tuesday expressed deep shock and grief over the demise of noted religious scholar and Kashmiri leader Molvi Abbas Ansari, who passed away after protracted illness at his residence in Khankhai Sokhta Nawakadal Srinagar this morning.

In his condolence message, Razvi has said that the passing away of Molvi Abbas Ansari Sahib is a great loss to the whole of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. “We have lost a great religious scholar and leader who had dedicated his life for the welfare of people. He was a reformist and had contributed to the holistic enlightenment of the people of J&K.”

Razvi offered condolences to the bereaved family and expressed solidarity with its members. He also prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and endurance for the bereaved family members to bear this irreparable loss.

Farooq, Omar condole demise of Ansari

The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President and Member of the Parliament Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah have expressed profound grief over the demise of noted Islamic scholar and Founder Chairman of Ittihadul Musilmeen, Moulana Mohammad Abbas Ansari.

In his condolence message, Dr. Farooq said, “All his life, Maulvi sahib remained deeply engaged with the issues deeply rooted in religious and cultural pluralism of J&K. His great efforts to bridge the sectarian divisions will be remembered for all the times to come. I pay my tributes to him and pray to Almighty Allah and for peace to his departed soul in the highest realms of Jannat. My heart goes out to the bereaved family at this difficult time.”

In his condolence message, Omar Abdullah said, “I pray to Almighty to bestow highest echelons to the departed soul in Jannat, and forbearance to the bereaved family, followers , and admirers of his.” Party’s Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq participated in the Ijtemai Namaz-e-Janaza of the late leader.
