Bandipora, Mar 19 : The residents of Bandipora in north Kashmir including the family members Friday held a protest rally against the alleged murder of their daughter by her in-laws over dowry issue in Rampora village a few days ago.
The protesters were demanding stern punishment to the “culprits”.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the protesters including women, children and elderly persons and relatives of the deceased woman marched from Panzigam village to Gulshan Chowk Bandipora, wherein they have demanded immediate action against the in-laws of the women for her alleged murder.
Shouting slogans “we want justice, bring culprits to book”, the protesters alleged that the deceased woman was allegedly murdered by her in-laws at Rampora and was continuously being harassed.
“Her husband (Mohsin) along with his family was harassing her for not fulfilling their dowry demands,” they alleged. “Those who killed her should be punished as per the law.”
“I had a sister who was murdered and I’m protesting today so it won’t happen tomorrow with someone else’s sister,” said victim’s Brother while demanding justice.
He said that her sister was always abused, oppressed and, “finally she was killed by her in-laws for not fulfilling their dowry demands.”
“We even sold our property to fulfil their demands, but we did not know that these people will still kill our sister,” he said.
“We are grateful to the police for their swift action but the culprits should be punished in such a way that such an incident does not happen again in the society,” he said.
Meanwhile, a police officer investigating the alleged murder who have found husbands “infidelity” as the main reason for the woman taking the extreme step further revealed that police also detained the mother-in-law of the deceased woman for questioning today while further investigation is still going on.
“We assure that perpetrator of the crime will be brought to justice. We appeal to the public to stay calm and not heed to any rumours,” he said.
Police have already arrested the victim’s husband and father-in-law—(KNO)
