PULWAMA, Oct 21: The administration on Friday rechristened the Rajpora Chowk, Pulwama and renamed it as Shaheed Farooq Chowk, paying homage to a police assistant sub inspector Farooq Ahmad Sheikh who was killed in a militant attack in 2013.
An official told Kashmir Despatch that it was already proposed/approved by the Government of J&K, and that is why Rajpora Chowk has been renamed by the name of “Shaheed Farooq Chowk”.
He said that the function to rename the chowk was held today at Rajpora Chowk Pulwama in which top officials of the administration were present.
He added that ASI Farooq Ahmad Sheikh was killed in a militant attack on May 10, 2013.
The renaming function was attended by Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, SSP Pulwama and other senior Police/Army officers who laid wreaths and showered flowers at the site.
On the occasion SSP Pulwama paid a glorious tribute to the Martyr Farooq Ahmad and said that the whole country is indebted to all the Martyrs and will always remember their supreme sacrifices.
He added that J&K Police is organizing different sports activities and other programmes in the memory of brave Police warriors who laid their precious lives in the line of duties for unity and integrity of the nation and also for protecting the life and property of the people.
