Srinagar, May 06: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday emphasized the need for a decisive fight against terrorism and its roots, stated that the people of Kashmir have openly condemned terrorism and the killing of innocent civilians, doing so freely and spontaneously.
He urged authorities to build on this public support while avoiding any missteps that could alienate the population.
Speaking to the media, as per Kashmir Despatch, CM Omar stressed that while pursuing the culprits behind the Pahalgam terror attack, care must be taken to ensure innocent people are not wrongly targeted.
Reacting to the Pahalgam attack that claimed lives of 26 innocent tourists, CM Omar said, “Those who disrupt peace and commit acts of inhumanity must be brought to justice, but innocent people should not suffer in the process.”
He further added, “It should not appear that in our pursuit of a few enemies of the people, the entire population of Jammu and Kashmir is being scrutinized. We must act with wisdom and restraint, ensuring our actions are precise and justified.”
Earlier this week, CM Omar Abdullah reiterated the Central government’s commitment to protecting governance and developmental projects in the Union Territory despite the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
As per Kashmir Despatch, Abdullah revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had personally emphasized ensuring the attack does not hinder progress in the region.
While acknowledging the setback to Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism sector, Abdullah called for a united effort to secure the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, stating, “The civil administration’s responsibilities must be fulfilled at any cost.”
