Rains bring relief as schools reopen after summer break in Valley

Srinagar: Rains that started in the Kashmir Valley on Thursday brought a much-needed relief to people especially children who are attending schools after summer break.

This summer capital of the state as also other places of the Valley had been experiencing quite high temperatures over the last few days. On Wednesday Srinagar recorded 33.6 degrees Celsius— 4.1 notches above normal and the relative humidity was 71 per cent in the morning and 47 per cent in the evening, the weatherman said. This morning, it was 84 per cent.

A spokesman of the MeT department said that Srinagar had traces of rain by 8:30 a.m. when recordings are taken but it was continuing heavily. He said the night temperature in the city was 21.1 degrees Celsius, 2.7 degrees above normal for this time of the year. Similarly, he said, Qazigund had 4.2 mm o rain by 8:30 a.m. Pahalgam traces, Kupwara traces, Kokernag 0.2 mm and Gulmarg 5.2 mm during the time. The weatherman has predicted rains today and tomorrow in Kashmir valley.
