Parliamentary board to finalise candidate (s): Ashok Koul
Srinagar, Oct 07 : The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) met National General Secretary (Organisations) BL Santosh in New Delhi on Thursday evening to discuss potential candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
Sources told news agency— that BJP J&K President Sat Sharma and General Secretary (Organisations) Ashok Koul met with BL Santosh to discuss the party’s strategy and candidate selection. Tarun Chugh, BJP’s National General Secretary and in-charge of J&K affairs, also attended the meeting.
During the discussions, the J&K leadership submitted a list seven shortlisted candidates to the party high command. The final decision on nominations will be taken by the BJP Parliamentary Board.
Speaking to KNO, Ashok Koul confirmed the meeting and submission of the candidate list.
“We met the BJP leadership and submitted a list of probable candidates. Now the party high command will take a final call on the matter,” he said.
Koul added that the Parliamentary Board will decide whether the party will contest all seats or fight only on a single seat.
The BJP is in a strong position to win one of the four seats scheduled for election on October 24. While the party may field candidates for the first two seats as a symbolic contest against the National Conference–Congress alliance, it is in a commanding position to secure one of the two remaining seats, for which a combined election will be held—(KNO)
