Ramadan, the month of blessings and forgiveness has just knocked our door delivering us a chance to reform ourselves into better Muslims and better human beings. The fasting is a well-known act of worship in many Abrahamic and Non-Abrahamic faiths but within this Ummah the case of fasting is much different.
With most civilizations before Islam, the fasting was ritualistic practice and to some of the tribes of Israelites it was act reprimand from God. However, the Quran after explicitly mandating the fast of Ramadan upon this Ummah mentions that these fasts are prescribed to make the Muslims more God-Conscious. So besides having a physical aspect to this act of worship the spiritual paradigms attached to it are more profound.
The month welcomes all those who have sinned, transgressed the set limits and wronged their own selves to seek refuge in the unending mercy of God. That’s why in a famous tradition narrated from the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him it has been conveyed to us that when the month of Ramadan begins a caller calls to us all, saying: “O seeker of Good come your acts are encouraged and O seeker bad Stop your acts are discouraged”. So, this narration signifies that the Quranic principle of Seeking good things and desisting from bad ones are literally practised in this month. The question remains are we ready to benefit ourselves from the blessings of Ramadan.
