REASI, Jan 3: Highlighting long-pending infrastructural and administrative issues faced by the legal fraternity, President Bar Association Reasi, Mr. Pawan Dev Singh, along with senior advocate Sh. Kuldeep Raj Dubey, on Tuesday met Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Sh. Manoj Sinha, and submitted a detailed memorandum of demands.
During the meeting, the Bar Association leadership drew the Lieutenant Governor’s attention to the acute shortage of space and deteriorating infrastructure at the District Court Reasi, which has been functioning from the same building since 1947. At the time of its establishment, the court complex housed only a single court, but over the decades, the number of courts as well as the strength of practicing lawyers has increased substantially.
The memorandum pointed out that the existing court building is now facing severe congestion, causing inconvenience to litigants, lawyers, court staff and judicial officers. The lack of adequate chambers, courtrooms and basic facilities has adversely impacted the smooth functioning of judicial work, the delegation said.
Among the key demands raised was the urgent construction of a new and modern District Court complex at Reasi to meet present and future requirements. The Bar Association also sought the creation of a post of Additional District Judge (ADJ), Reasi, citing the growing pendency of cases and the need to ensure timely delivery of justice.
The memorandum further highlighted issues related to the effective functioning of the District Consumer Forum, Reasi, and urged the administration to strengthen the forum with adequate infrastructure and manpower. In addition to judicial concerns, the delegation also raised several general development issues pertaining to Reasi district.
Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Sh. Manoj Sinha gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured them that the issue of constructing a new building for the District Court complex at Reasi would be taken up on priority. He also assured that other issues raised in the memorandum, including those concerning the legal fraternity and development of the district, would be examined sympathetically.
The assurance from the Lieutenant Governor has been welcomed by members of the Bar Association, who expressed hope that concrete steps would soon be initiated to address the longstanding demands and improve judicial infrastructure in Reasi.
