Srinagar, August 20: Jammu and Kashmir’s mainstream political party National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Thursday said that released political leaders ‘freedom’ should be permanent now.

Dr. Farooq on Thursday called for senior party leaders to meet, as the administration of the UT had informed the J&K High court that all the political party leaders were allowed to freely move around without any restrictions.

Farooq Abdullah as per Kashmir Despatch told reporters that the administration finally listened to them and their four senior party leaders were allowed to come out of their homes after one year of illegal detention.
Abdullah said that as there should be a political process in Kashmir, the administration should release all party leaders so that they can also walk and move freely.

He said that “The main objective of meeting was to see whether our people who have been locked up for one year could come out of their homes as the government said they are not locked up. So I hope this isn’t going to be one-time freedom. Now they have come out, they are free people and their freedom should be permanent.”

Abdullah said that he is thankful that they could started the process and party leaders are out after twelve months and he will be meeting with other leaders who are still locked up so that they can talk about the future of J&K.

He further said, “We are trying our best to bring peace and prosperity into the erstwhile state of J&K. We are trying to pull out people from the problems that we are trapped in and also we strive to maintain the unity and brotherhood of the state and today’s party meet was our first step towards our goal.”

He said that their political agenda and political reviews will be done after meeting with all party members when they will be released and the same will be notified through the media.

On the overall present situation of J&K, Abdullah said that people who out knew best then they do as they were locked up.

He said that the people are in the most miserable condition, there is hardly anything to say. All business are at zero level, tourism is zero, there is suffering everywhere, there is not a place where there is not suffering.
He further said that, “On top of it, we are also suffering from the Coronavirus, which is also taking a heavy toll on people and we are still in the situation where security is very tight, where people are not allowed to move even in this pandemic.”

About the political situation in J&K, Abdullah said that is a secondary issue, when all leaders will be released, they will be having a proper discussion on that.
Earlier on 5th August, Farooq Abdullah had called for an all-party meet but was not granted permission by the administration.

Abdulah repeatedly said that the meeting was merely to see whether their colleagues could come out of their homes, as Government used to say they are free but they were not free. Today’s meeting was not about statehood and elections. That would only be possible when all leaders will be free.”
He added that their 16 leaders were locked up in which four are out and one, unfortunately, couldn’t survive. And will be in touch with others in the coming days.

On Gupkar’s declaration members, Farooq Abdullah said that if one’s belief is weak, he is not responsible for that. He said this pointing towards members who either changed either the party or left politics.
He said that it’s their take and conscience, they will answer for their doing, Farooq Abdullah will not.

On being questioned what happened on August 5, 2019, prove NC’s politics wrong?

Abdullah said, “We were never proved wrong and will never be proved wrong, we believe till our death day on what we believe should be done.”
He also said that he is in constant touch with Mehbooba Mufti, they are concerned about her too and they do want her to be free and that will be a great day for all of us when every political leader will be able to move freely. Mehbooba Mufti is also a signatory to the Gupkar declaration.
