Kashmir’s team holds second spot on points table

Srinagar Mar 17: Real Kashmir Football Club (RKFC) faced off against Delhi FC in an I League match that concluded in a 1-1 draw on Sunday at TRC Ground Srinagar.

From the onset, RKFC displayed aggression, creating numerous opportunities, yet struggled to capitalize on them. The first half ended with a scoreless stalemate.

Delhi FC surprised RKFC by taking the lead against the flow of the game. Balwant Singh, a former India forward, provided a precise low cross from the right, exploiting a momentary gap in Real Kashmir’s defense. Gurtej Singh capitalized on the opportunity, unleashing a powerful right-footed shot that left the Real Kashmir defense stunned and found the back of the net.

In the 82nd minute, following the setback, Real Kashmir pushed forward aggressively and eventually equalized with an own goal. Substitute Ifham Tariq Mir delivered a free-kick towards the far post, aiming for Shaher Shaheen, who redirected the ball back into the crowded penalty box.

In a chaotic turn of events, the ball struck Delhi FC defender Anwar’s left leg, initially appearing to be heading out for a corner, indicating a narrow escape for Delhi FC. However, unexpectedly, the ball deflected off Delhi FC goalkeeper Naveen Kumar and ended up in the back of the net, providing a much-needed relief for the Real Kashmir team.

The RKFC, after a successful streak of nine away matches comprising four wins, three draws, and two losses, returned to their home ground. RKFC now holds the second position in the standings with 36 points from 20 matches, with 10 wins, six draws, and four defeats. Leading the table is Kolkata’s Mohammedan Sporting with 44 points from 19 games. RKFC’s upcoming match against Mohammedan SC is scheduled for March 23 at TRC Ground, Srinagar.
