Dehradun, Jan 11: On the occasion of Road Safety Month (1 January – 31 January), Sanjay Orthopaedic, Spine and Maternity Centre organized an impactful webinar on road safety, focusing on the rising incidence of road traffic accidents and the urgent need for prevention, awareness, and collective responsibility.
The webinar brought together distinguished speakers including Padma Shri Dr. B. K. S. Sanjay, Guinness World Record holder and President, AIIMS Guwahati; Dr. Gaurav Sanjay, Orthopaedic Surgeon, noted author and road safety activist; Dr. S. N. Singh, President, Dehradun Orthopaedic Association; and Dr. Rakesh Dangwal, Brand Ambassador and prominent social activist.
Addressing the audience, Padma Shri Dr. B. K. S. Sanjay emphasized that road traffic injuries constitute one of the most serious yet preventable public health challenges. He underlined the importance of strict adherence to traffic rules, use of safety measures, and responsible road behaviour to reduce fatalities and long-term disabilities.
Dr. Gaurav Sanjay highlighted the devastating physical, psychological, and economic consequences of road accidents, particularly among the young and productive population. He stressed that awareness, early intervention, and efficient trauma care play a crucial role in saving lives and minimizing disability.
Dr. S. N. Singh spoke on the need for improved traffic discipline and stronger enforcement of road safety regulations, while Dr. Rakesh Dangwal highlighted key issues related to road traffic accidents. He called upon citizens, institutions, and authorities to work together to ensure safer roads for all.
All speakers reiterated that road safety is not an individual responsibility alone but a collective responsibility of society as a whole. The speakers unanimously agreed that sustained public education, policy support, and coordinated efforts among healthcare professionals, enforcement agencies, and the community are essential to achieving meaningful improvements in road safety. The webinar concluded with a strong message that saving lives on the road requires shared commitment and consistent action.
