Srinagar : After heavy snowfall, Kashmir remained cut off from the rest of the country for the second consecutive day on Tuesday as the Jammu-Srinagar national highway was blocked while flights to Srinagar airport continue to remain suspended due to poor visibility.
An official of the Airport Authority of India told Kashmir Despatch that due to adverse weather conditions all incoming and outgoing flights at Srinagar airport have been cancelled sofar. He said that we are we will try to operate flights in second half of the day if weather improved.
From the other end the Jammu-Srinagar highway remains closed for traffic on consecutive third day on Tuesday due to heavy snowfall on either side of the Jawahar Tunnel. Efforts are on to restore the traffic at the earliest possible,” an official of the traffic department told Kashmir Despatch.
The spell of snowfall has disrupted life in Kashmir as many house were damaged besides many trees and electric poles getting uprooted due to the heavy snowfall.
Meanwhile a police official told Kashmir Despatch that there were reports of snow avalanche in many parts of the valley since Monday afternoon. He said that many lives were lost in snow hit avalanche in parts of valley. The officer said that we are collecting details of all the snow hit incidents and till this evening will share detailed report to media.
