Srinagar, Jan 06: The Assistant Commissioner/Designated Officer for Food Safety, Anantnag, on Tuesday issued an order banning the sale of Cremica Digestive biscuits in the district after a laboratory report flagged the sampled product as unsafe due to sulphite content exceeding the maximum prescribed limit.
The order stated that a Food Safety Officer from Larnoo lifted a market sample of the product sold under the brand name Cremica Digestive and manufactured by MRS Bector’s Food Specialities Ltd., Himachal Pradesh segment. The sample, bearing Lot No. BD10K25, was sent for analysis to the National Food Laboratory, Ghaziabad, which in its report No. JK-794/JAN/26/910, dated 01-01-2026, confirmed the presence of sulphite above the permissible threshold, rendering the product unsafe for consumption.
Citing provisions under Section 36(3)(b) of the Food Safety Act, 2006, the Designated Officer Sheikh Zameer Ahmad prohibited the sale of the product in Anantnag district until further orders, in the interest of public health and safety.
The order further reads that manufacturing and sale of unsafe food items is prohibited under Section 3(1)(zz)(xi) of the FSS Act, 2006, and warned traders against violations.
Consumers have been advised to remain vigilant and report any continued sale of the banned product to the nearest Food Safety or enforcement office. (KDC)
