Sameer Yasir, First Kashmiri To Join NEW YORK TIMES As Full-Time Reporter

Date:

Sameer Yasir has become the first journalist from Kashmir to join The New York Times as a reporter.

Born in Baramulla, Sameer, who was freelancing with NYT for many years Sunday announced on social media that he has joined the publication as a full time reporter.

He shall be based in Delhi. Sameer has reported for Foreign Policy, The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, BBC online, Times of London and Firstpost.

At NYT, he will be reporting from India and its neighbouring countries.

Earlier Sameer covered the Kashmir conflict, crises in Sri-Lanka, rising Hindu nationalism, and riots in India in freelance projects for The New York Times.

Last year, he wrote a gripping story on a Kashmiri mother who lost her 22-year-old son after he was bitten by a snake, and her 16-hour odyssey to find an antidote during the lockdown in Kashmir.
