Baramulla, Nov 09 : Nothing is impossible when one has the willpower to achieve great things for a successful future, as proved by Tariq Ahmad Wani, a north Kashmir resident who went from sand contractor to livestock entrepreneur.

Exclusively speaking to Kashmir Dispatch, Tariq Ahmad Wani, a resident of Karhama Kunzar, said, “I was working as a contractor in the sand industry. However, I found myself at a crossroads due to the restrictions on illegal sand extraction from water bodies, which began to significantly impact my livelihood.”

Tariq said, “Keeping the future in mind, I gave up on this job and took time to think about exploring a better future for the betterment of my family, and I ventured into sheep farming.”

He added, “In 2021, I approached the Department of Sheep Husbandry to establish a 125-ewe unit, securing 50% subsidy under the Integrated Sheep Development Scheme.”

Tariq continued, “No doubt, the beginning wasn’t smooth, but within just a month, I started learning properly about this sheep farming venture and got things on track.”

He proudly stated, “I achieved remarkable success in just two short years, and I must thank the animal husbandry department and LG administration for such schemes.”

Tariq said, “Two years later, I am really satisfied with the decision I made, and the strength of my livestock is increasing day by day.”

He credited the animal husbandry department for helping and guiding him properly in making his farm a recognized brand in the region, saying, “I took the department’s advice diligently, and today, my livestock thrives with impressive birth and weaning weights, ensuring the animals’ well-being.”

Tariq, while sharing further about the yearly income he generates through this farm, said, “My income has risen from 8 to 10 lakh rupees a year, which has not only helped me improve my status but also my family’s standard.”

Not only this, but Tariq is also proud to have provided employment opportunities to four individuals at his farm.

Speaking about the positive impact this transformation has had on his life, Tariq said, “The essence of halal livelihood and the noble profession of the prophets have transformed my life into a peaceful abode.”

In a message to the youth, Tariq said, “No work is less; one has to work with dedication and passion, and then definitely one can achieve great heights in any chosen profession.”

He urged the youth to seize all opportunities, especially in entrepreneurship, to make themselves self-sufficient for a bright future.
