SOPORE, JAN 30 : The administration in Sopore is likely to lock a mosque in Khan Mohalla Chinkipora Sopore after two groups had a scuffle over Auqaf property.
Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said, two group of people at Chinkipora Sopore have been fighting over misuse of Auqaf property funds being collected at a local mosque.
“The two groups are fighting over the funds that are being collected in the name of Auqaf property in Chinkipora mosque here in Sopore.
Earlier a committee was collecting funds in the mosque. However, the same committee has alleged that elections were conducted out of now were without the consent of other committee members,” a local while talking to Kashmir Despatch said.
Another local said that there were skirmishes between two groups of people happening from a very long time now.
“There has been a dispute over the funds collected in a mosque which has led to a scuffle and all we wanted is to solve this matter as soon as possible,” he added.
A senior police official told Kashmir Despatch that a group of people from Chinkipora mosque is alleging that other group of people has carried out fraudulent elections and misused funds worth Rs 16 lac rupees, which belongs to Auqaf committee.
Reports said that the allegations have been leveled against former President Auqaf Committee following which a team was constituted by ADC Sopore which is headed by Naib Tehsildar Ashraf.
“A team of officials went there and collected evidence. As the team of officials were collecting evidence, one of the members of the committee Shabir Ahmad was allegedly beaten by another group. He was taken to hospital for further treatment. A team of police also reached on the spot but both the parties created ruckus hindering the work of police,” the police official added.
The police official said that an FIR has been lodged in this regard and there are apprehension that mosque will be locked by the authorities to maintain the sanctity of the mosque and peace in the area.
