Security beefed up across Srinagar, forces search vehicles, carry out frisking at all locations

Srinagar, Oct 09 : Following several civilian killings in the last four days and two encounters last night, security has been beefed up across the Srinagar city with barricades and security checkpoints been installed vital locations, sources said here on Saturday.

Sources told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that security has been beefed up and checkpoints have been installed across the city following two encounters last night and civilian killings over the past few days including that of famous chemist ML Bindroo on Tuesday evening.

They said that the police and security forces today searches vehicles and carried out frisking, while the security grid had been tightened across the city.

Notably, a militant was killed last night during a chance encounter while another one managed to flee after they tried to attack a police party in Natipora area of Srinagar.

Later, late in the night another encounter took place in the vicinity, however, the militants managed to escape from the spot.

Sources said that the security forces have inputs about the movement of militants in the city, following which security has been tightened across the city with forces checking vehicles at all locations in the city 

Sources also said that VIPs have been asked to restrict their movement in view of the security situation arising out of the recent killings.

Notably, five civilians have been killed in the four three days of which four have been killed in Srinagar alone including famous chemist ML Bindroo and non-local vendor on Tuesday evening and two teachers on Thursday morning.

A civilian was also shot dead in Shahgund area of Hajin in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Tuesday evening. (KNS)
