Srinagar, Mar 19: Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated across India on Saturday, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, religious authorities and moon-sighting committees announced on Thursday.
The announcement came after the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted on Thursday evening, extending the fasting month of Ramadan to a full 30 days. As a result, Muslims across the country will observe Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday.
Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the most significant festivals in Islam, marks the conclusion of a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection observed during Ramadan. The festival is traditionally celebrated with special congregational prayers, acts of charity, and gatherings with family and friends.
In the days leading up to the festival, markets in several cities and towns have witnessed a surge in activity, with people shopping for new clothes, sweets, and gifts as part of the celebrations.
Authorities in different states have also issued advisories and made arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of Eid prayers and public gatherings. Security personnel, traffic management teams, and municipal services have been put in place to facilitate large congregations at mosques and designated Eidgah grounds.
