‘Will support PAGD candidate in Wagoora’

Suhail Khan

BARAMULLA, Nov 22: PDP’s Spokesperson Suhail Bukhari who is himself contesting DDC elections from Sangrama constituency Sunday said that his party will support the contesting candidate of Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) in DDC elections in women reserved constitueny Wagoora in district Baramulla as per the agreement between Alliance partners.

Talking to Kashmir Despatch, Bukhari said that the decision to contest DDC elections from Wagoora independently by Safina Baig, women wing president of PDP and wife of former deputy chief minsiter Muzaffar Hussain Baig is that of her own and similar to the decisions taken by some leaders who could not be accommodated by their respective parties because PAGD understanidng.

Bukhari said the remarks of union home minsiter Amit Shah on Gupkar Declaration are the same as are being made by Apni Party district President Baramulla and contender from sangrama Constituency Shoaib Lone.

He observed that people of Jammu and Kashmir should for time being forget about their disappointment with the political mainstream in J&K and support them for a larger cause which has been necessitated by the post August 5, 2019 situation.

Bukhari alleged that Government of India is hellbent to change demography in Jammu and Kashmir and it also wants to occupy land here besides ‘looting’ it’s natural resources like sand, gravel and aggregate.

“We need to understand what has happened to us since the Abrogation of Article 370 and how people suffered last year and are still struggling with revocation of special status. Also, its consequences have a larger impact on the people. You can see the utterances of Chief Ministers of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, how they are talking about Jammu and Kashmjr,” he added.

Bukhari said, “Our (PAGD) most important agenda is to stay together and fight against the BJP and RSS and to fight for our rights and for our future”.

“Some people would come up and say that these DDC elections are small and what is the point in contesting such elections. Had that been the case then why would Home Minister Amit Shah pass such statements, which he made in last few days, where he said people of Jammu and Kashmir are happy with the revocation of Article 370 and calling PAGD as Gupkar Gang”, he added.

“The government (BJP) is not allowing DDC elections to be held on the level playing field. They are providing high-level facilities to BJP and Apni Party candidates and they are confining Gupkar alliance and other independent candidates into hotels in the name of security”, he added.

Bukhari added that the contesting candidates excpet for these parties are not being allowed to campaign freely. “What kind of elections are we talking about when they can’t move outside and listen to the grievances of local people and yes these DDC elections are challenging as such elections have not taken place earlier.”
