Shopian gunfight: Fresh firing resumes, Another militant slain, toll 2

Srinagar, June 19 : Fresh firing resumed between hidding militants and forces in South Kashmir’s Shopian this morning sources said.

Official sources told Kashmir Despatch this morning firing from both sides were reported at Bandpawa area of Shopian where gunfight between militants and forces is underway since yesterday evening.

Meanwhile reports reaching this newspaper said that another militant has been killed in the gunfight, taking the toll to 2.

A police officer also confirmed to Kashmir Despatch about the killing of second militant in the gunfight.

Earlier, a joint team of the police, the army’s 44 Rashtriya Rifle, and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Bandpawa area of Shopian.

As the joint team approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off a gunfight in which two militants were killed sofar.

Pertinent to mention here that in another gunfight which is also underway at Meej area of Pampore where one militant was killed on Thursday afternoon.
