Srinagar, Mar 01 : The four-day training programme on National Mission on Natural Farming, organised by the Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Kashmir, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, GoI successfully concluded today. The programme aimed to promote sustainable agricultural practices and enhance the adoption of Natural Farming techniques among farmers and agricultural professionals in the Kashmir valley.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor of SKUAST Kashmir, Prof. Nazir Ahmed Ganai, emphasised the critical role of Natural Farming in ensuring ecological sustainability and enhancing food security. He underscored the importance of supporting the National Mission on Natural Farming, noting that the mission aligns with SKUAST Kashmir’s vision of fostering eco-friendly and sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Director Extension SKUAST Kashmir, highlighted the significance of promoting Natural Farming in the valley. She stressed the need for collaboration among stakeholders, including farmers, extension workers, and agricultural experts, to create a more sustainable and resilient agricultural ecosystem in Kashmir.
Sartaj Ahmed Shah, Joint Director, Agriculture Extension Kashmir also expressed his appreciation for the strong participation of extension functionaries from various Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) across the region.
The program also featured insights from renowned experts, including Prof. Purshottam Singh (Professor of Agronomy), Prof. Amal Saxena (Professor Agronomy), Prof. Parmeet Singh (Professor Agronomy), Prof. Lal Singh (Professor Agronomy), Prof. Farhanaz Rasool (Deputy Director of Training), Dr. Rusheeba Manzoor (Deputy Director of SAMETI), and several scientists from KVKs. The programme witnessed active participation from agricultural professionals, scientists, and extension workers who were provided with the necessary tools, knowledge, and skills to lead future efforts in promoting natural farming.
This initiative is in line with the broader vision of the Indian government to promote sustainable agricultural practices, reduce dependency on chemical inputs, enhance soil health, and improve the livelihoods of farmers.
