SMC Mayor holds meeting with Chandigarh MC Mayor, others
Srinagar, Apr 15 : Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Chandigarh Municipal Corporation are going going to enter into a knowledge collaboration in various areas.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, SMC Mayor Junaid Mattu said that he met the Mayor of Chandigarh Sarbjit Kaur and proposed a dynamic and process based knowledge-sharing collaboration between SMC and MC Chandigarh
He said that the meeting was attended by Sr. Deputy Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Commissioner of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation.
“Srinagar Municipal Corporation would benefit from studying the Urban Plantation, Sanitation, Sewerage Treatment and Public Toilets practices of MC Chandigarh. We will also study Chandigarh’s Construction & Demolition Material Recycling and Bulk Composting practices,” he said.
He said that MC Chandigarh’s plans to tackle the stray dog issue will also be studied. “Segregation of waste at source as well as bio-remediation of both legacy waste as well as ongoing wast remediation will be planned in collaboration.l
He also said that similarly SMC will share its plans and practices in Waste Management, Drainage and Public Health Engineering – including the plans to upgrade water treatment plants.
“A detailed MoU will be signed between the two Corporations in the coming days. I will also be extending an invitation to Mayors and Commissioners of 15 North Indian cities to curate the first North Indian Cities Summit in Srinagar this summer,” he said.
He said that SMC will host first summit and curate a sustained collaborative forum between 15 cities. “Corporators of SMC and MC Chandigarh will also visit two cities and work closely in various areas to redress public grievances effectively,” he said.
