SRINAGAR, Dec 27: In a landmark step towards integrating advanced technology into public healthcare, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), in collaboration with Safe Hands Dental Health and Awareness Centre, inaugurated an AI-enabled Robotic Dental Check-up System, setting a new benchmark for preventive oral healthcare in the city.
The state-of-the-art system, named “Scano Air”, was unveiled during a Dental Health Awareness Camp organised for SMC officials and workers. The AI-powered robotic technology is designed to conduct quick, non-invasive and accurate preliminary dental screenings, enabling early detection of oral health issues such as cavities, gum disease, plaque accumulation and other dental abnormalities without discomfort to the patient.
The pioneering AI system was formally inaugurated by Jenab Fazlul Haseeb (IAS), Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, in the presence of Dr. Fauzia Habib, Health Officer, SMC. Terming the initiative a major leap in modern healthcare delivery, the Commissioner said that the introduction of artificial intelligence in routine dental check-ups will significantly enhance preventive healthcare, reduce the burden of advanced dental diseases, and improve accessibility to quality screening services for employees and the general public.
Unlike conventional dental examinations, the AI-enabled robotic system uses intelligent imaging and data-driven analysis to provide instant assessments, making it particularly suitable for large-scale community screening programmes. Officials said such technology-driven solutions can play a crucial role in early intervention, cost-effective treatment planning and time-efficient health monitoring.
While the camp also included an oral health awareness lecture and practical demonstrations on dental hygiene, the AI-based robotic check-up system remained the central attraction of the event. All participating SMC staff members underwent AI-assisted dental screenings, receiving immediate insights into their oral health status.
The Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Safe Hands Dental Health and Awareness Centre stated that the successful introduction of Scano Air marks the beginning of a broader vision to adopt AI-driven preventive healthcare solutions across municipal health initiatives. Both institutions expressed their commitment to expanding the use of such advanced technologies beyond institutional settings to reach the wider community, especially in mass awareness and screening drives across Srinagar.
