Srinagar, October 5: Bhupinder Kumar, Administrative Secretary of the Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department, has emphasized that smoking remains a significant challenge in the Kashmir region.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a function in Srinagar, Kumar as per Kashmir Despatch correspondent, highlighted that the consumption of tobacco, both through smoking and non-smoking methods, continues to pose a formidable obstacle in Kashmir.
He underscored that tobacco consumption has long been a major contributing factor to various serious health issues, including cancer and other diseases.
Kumar asserted that overcoming this challenge necessitates a shared responsibility, where end-users actively take steps to address and curtail tobacco consumption.
He further acknowledged the crucial roles that individuals and the media can play in combating this issue, emphasizing the need for their active participation.
Kumar acknowledged that the battle against tobacco consumption is a prolonged one, but emphasized that success can only be achieved through collective efforts, such as implementing bans and discouraging tobacco use.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Kumar noted that Kashmir witnesses a high prevalence of smoking, which poses a continuous challenge for the administration.
