Kupwara, Aug 2 : The 16-year-old boy rescued earlier from an under-construction pond in vicinity of GDC Sogam has been declared dead on arrival at local sub-district hospital here.
Confirming the death of the teenager, a medical officer at SDH Sogam said that they received a boy in unconscious state and in the course of overall assessment, we however found the boy lifeless and not responding to any treatment.
As reported, the teenager identified as Abdul Rehman son of Zahoor Ahmad Lone from Sogam had fallen into an under-construction pond, while at the site alongside few other local boys.
A rescue operation was accordingly launched and after nearly an hour of strenuous efforts by police, army, fire and emergency services personnel alongside locals was rescued and removed to SDH Sogam.
Meanwhile a pall of gloom has descended over the native village on the tragic death of the teenager. (GNS)
