Sopore, Sep 12: Aijaz Guru, the brother of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru on Thursday said that Kashmiris have been victims for the past 35 years and can no longer bear it.
Speaking to Kashmir Despatch after filing his nomination form for the Sopore assembly seat, Aijaz said that we have remained distant from democracy for the past 35 years, being only victims, and he is also one of those victims, so we can no longer tolerate the oppression and tyranny.
Aijaz Guru said that he cannot describe in a minute the tales of oppression and tyranny that we all have endured over the past 35 years.
According to official data, 23 nominations have been submitted for the Sopore assembly seat, including some key players among National Conference’s Irshad Rasool Kar, Congress’ Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, People’s Democratic Party’s Irfan Ali, AIP candidate Advocate Mursaleen, and Independent candidate Advocate Latief Ahmad Wani.
Meanwhile, Tabasum Guru, the wife of Afzal Guru, said that Aijaz’s decision to contest the assembly elections is a personal one and has nothing to do with the Guru family.
Tabasum said that it pains her and the whole family when Afzal Guru’s photograph and Aijaz’s photograph are aired simultaneously. She requested the media fraternity to refrain from doing so.
She said that her husband had told her in 2005 to cut ties with this person. Hence, all his actions are completely personal. She further added that she will not speak or respond to any media questions in the future, as it pains her a lot.
