Showkat Mahidin Emerges as Top Contender for President
After a 18-year pause, chemists in Sopore town in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, are gearing up for a pivotal event—the commencement of elections.
This notable development comes as a momentous occasion, as local sentiments seem to be leaning in favor of the widely acclaimed chemist Showkat Mahiddin to secure the coveted position.
With this impending electoral process, the town of Sopore anticipates a substantial transformation in its leadership landscape.
Jehangir Ahmad, the appointed election board incharge, has confirmed that the elections will take place on the 29th of August, concluding this month.
The venue for the elections will be the Dak Bungalow in Sopore, providing a suitable environment for this democratic process.
Currently, a total of 108 chemists are registered as members of the association. Notably, the competition for the prestigious position of the association’s president is primarily between Showkat Mahiddin and Altaf Ahmad Sofi, the owners of Madina Medicate and Pandith Medical shop, respectively.
It is pertinent to mention here that this upcoming election signifies a significant turning point, as the chemist community is finally witnessing the resumption of the electoral process after an 18-year hiatus in the town.

Meanwhile, sources said that Showkat Mahiddin is gaining the momentum with good support from the chemists in the town and is likely to hold the position.
