Srinagar, July 12: Three militants were killed in a gunfight with government forces in Reban area of north Kashmir’s Sopore on Sunday.
SSP Sopore Javeed Iqbal told Kashmir Despatch that three militants have been killed in the operation. However, he said, the identity of the slain militants was yet to be ascertained.
Earlier on Saturday night, according to reports a joint team of Army’s 22 RR, SOG Sopore, and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Reban Sopore.
As the joint team approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter.
In the initial stage of gunfire one militant was killed, however, after hours of the search operation, two more militants who were hiding were killed reports added.
Srinagar based Army Spokesperson Rajesh Kalia also confirmed to Kashmir Despatch about the killing of three militants in Reban gunfight. He said three AKs were also recovered from the encounter site.
Meanwhile, authorities suspended internet services in parts of Sopore following this gunfight.
