Two girl students brought laurels to north Kashmir’s Sopore by winning medals in the 7th Thai National Boxing Championship held in Hyderabad last week.

Syed Liza Nazki and Sania Nissar, students of Shahi Hamdam Sports Academy Sopore are the only two students from Jammu and Kashmir who bagged the medals in the all over India competition.

Liza Nazki is a 10th standard student while as Sania Nisar is a 12th standard student.

This is for the first time that any girl student from Sopore- once a hot bed of militancy has bagged a medal in all over India championship.

“Earlier, Sopore was seen a place of violence, stone pelting. Sopore was called as Kandhar of Kashmir but now there is a change as we can see girls of Sopore representing the country in all India championships.

Youth of Sopore are now leading in national and international sports events and academics,” a member of Shahi Hamdam Sports Academy Sopore said.

He said that both the girls took part in the championship and played brilliantly defeating their opponents who had come all over India to participate in the 7th Thai National Boxing Championship.
