The Sopore media association Sunday held elections to elect the new president of the association.
Ballot based polls were held at the Sopore office where Showkat Lone won by 2 votes against incumbent president Shabir Khan.
In the due process, a total of 28 members casted their votes in which Showkat Lone got 15 and Shabir Khan got 13 votes.
Talking with Kashmir Despatch, Showkat Lone said that he will work for the welfare of the Association and will put all his efforts to make the journalist body strong.
“Every member of the journalist fraternity should get the due respect and the rights in the society besides professionalism will be our main motive and for that we will work in tandem,” Showkat added.
He said that every professional journalist has a duty towards the society and we will try to fulfil the very basics of the profession.
Showkat assured his members that he will take up the issues related to the journalist fraternity at proper forum and ensure that they are resolved at the earliest.
