Sopore, Mar 22 : The Superintendent of Police (SP) Sopore, Divya Dev (IPS), stated on Friday that the police is fully committed to providing justice to the victim’s family. Two individuals involved in the murder of a 40-year-old man have already been arrested, and further investigation into the case is currently underway.

During a media briefing, SP Sopore Divya Dev (IPS) explained that on March 19, at approximately 10:40 PM, the police received a phone call reporting a missing person identified as Mushtaq Ahmad, son of Ghulam Rasool Mir, a resident of Mir Mohalla Duroo. Family members had informed the authorities at the Warpora Police Chowki.

Accordingly, a missing person report was filed, and multiple search teams were immediately formed under the supervision of SDPO Sopore, SHO, and DO Warpora. Through inquiries, it was discovered that the missing person had been seen with two other individuals. With this information, the police apprehended two suspects. During questioning, both suspects confessed to their involvement in the murder.

SP Sopore stated that based on their confessions, a search was conducted in the orchards of the Duroo area, where the victim’s dead body was found. Following the necessary medical procedures, the body was returned to the family for the last rites.

The SP confirmed that two individuals have been identified as Ubaid Altaf Shah, son of Mohammad Altaf Shah, and Tufail Ahmad Hajam, son of Mohammad Akbar Hajam, both residents of Pir Mohalla Duroo. Both suspects have been produced before the judicial magistrate, and crucial evidence, including the weapon used in the crime, has been recovered. A case with FIR number 53/2024 has been registered at the Sopore Police Station, and the investigation is ongoing.

SP Divya Dev (IPS) added that preliminary investigations suggest that both the accused and the victim knew each other and were acquainted. However, personal animosity developed over time, leading to the victim’s murder.

She further emphasized that this incident has no connection to terrorism and was entirely a personal matter.

SP Divya Dev (IPS) assured that Sopore Police is committed to conducting a thorough investigation, aiming to ensure that the accused receive the maximum punishment as per the relevant sections of the law and to provide justice to the victim’s family.
