Sopore residents protest against power crisis

Sopore, Feb 16 : Residents of Neharpora area of Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday staged a protest against the PDD, alleging that the department has failed to provide proper electricity in the area.

Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said scores of people including women staged a protest and blocked Sopore-Sringaer road at Iqbal market to highlight the power crisis in the area since past one week.

Residents while alleged PDD department for failed to repair damaged transformer in the area which in result area is reeling under darkness since past week.

They said that authorities at PDD lack seriousness to resolve the power crisis in the area despite repeated approach to the PDD authorities.

Mohammad Younis a local resident talking with Kashmir Despatch said that we are facing lot of problems without electricity, he said and urged the higher authorities of PDD to take necessary steps and solve their problem at earliest.

However the protesting residents said they would be forced to launch an agitation if their grievance were not resolved at earliest.

Meanwhile Executive Engineer PDD of Sopore Division Farooq Ahmed when contacted told Kashmir Despatch that the transformer of the area has been damaged and our efforts are on to repair it and to restore electricity in the area at earliest.
