Horse driven cart owners likely to be provided government schemes to earn livelihood

Sopore,Feb 10: The authorities in Sopore area of North Kashmir have put a blanket ban on horse-driven carts (tongas) on Wednesday.
The decision was taken by the administration to relocate the cart vendors and street hawkers to specified areas. While as Sopore witnessed less traffic jams after the administration decided to relocate the street vendors in the town.
Station house officer Azim Iqbal talking with Kashmir Despatch said horse cart is the biggest hurdle. While as Sopore undergoes lot of changes, the cart continues to remain an issues.
“Earlier we relocated the street vendors and hawkers to specified locations to run their business. We saw a smooth traffic movement in the town but the horse driven carts are still creating problems for the management of the traffic in the town. So admin have issued an order that no Tonga will be allowed to ply in the town else disciplinary actions will be taken against them,” the officer said.
The step has been hailed by one and all in Sopore.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore Parvaiz Sajad also confirmed this development to Kashmir Despatch and said that for the betterment of town and especially for smooth traffic movement this initiative was need of an hour.
He further said that more changes are on cards for the development of Sopore.
Meanwhile, sources said that the horse driven cart owners will be provided with some government schemes in order to have a better livelihood.
