SRINAGAR, May 27: Srinagar District has been recognized as the top-performing district in the country under the Jal Jeevan Survekshan (JJS-2023) program. This recognition comes among 135 Har Ghar Jal certified villages nationwide, highlighting the successful implementation of the flagship program of the Central Government, the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
Scoring a perfect 100 percent under the set parameters and indicators of JJS-2023, the Srinagar District has secured the top rank in JJM implementation. The district has accomplished the impressive feat of completing 10,407 Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) across 29 villages, fulfilling the targeted goal of providing clean drinking water to 10,407 households.
Jal Jeevan Survekshan (JJS-2022) was introduced by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, on October 2, 2022. This evaluation methodology aims to assess the performance of districts and states in JJM implementation, ranking them at the national level on a monthly basis.
During the competition, Srinagar District showcased commendable work in Har Ghar Jal certification, water quality testing through laboratories and Field Test Kits (FTKs), training women in the use of FTKs, and skill development for operation and maintenance staff across India. These efforts have propelled the district from the 46th rank to the coveted top position as of May 25, 2023.
Expressing his pride in this achievement, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, the Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, commended the collective efforts of the team involved. He extended his congratulations to the JJM team and urged them to continue their work with even greater enthusiasm and dedication to maintain the top rank in Jal Jeevan Survekshan.
