The Department of Posts extends service hours at the Nehru Park facility from 9 am to 9 pm to improve access for residents and tourists
Srinagar, Nov 6: Visitors to Dal Lake will now have more time to access postal services at Srinagar’s iconic Floating Post Office, with the Department of Posts extending its daily operating hours until 9 pm.
Located at Nehru Park on Dal Lake, the floating facility will function from 9 am to 9 pm, offering an additional window for residents, tourists and other visitors to access postal services.
The decision follows the public response to the recent extension of working hours at the Lal Chowk Head Post Office, which also operates from 9 am to 9 pm.
Chief Postmaster General, Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, Col Sagar Hanuman Singh, visited the Floating Post Office along with Director Postal Services Prateek and Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Srinagar Postal Division, Adam Mohi U Din.
During the visit, the officers reviewed the available facilities and interacted with customers, tourists and members of the public to understand their requirements. The department said the extended schedule was introduced in view of the high footfall at Nehru Park and the demand for postal services beyond regular office hours.
Col Sagar Hanuman Singh said the move was aimed at making postal facilities more accessible and convenient for the public.
Director Postal Services Prateek said the Floating Post Office was both an important postal facility and a distinctive tourist attraction in Kashmir. He said the extended timings would benefit local residents, tourists, houseboat operators and other visitors.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices Adam Mohi U Din said the positive response to the extended timings at Lal Chowk had encouraged the department to explore similar arrangements elsewhere.
The department is also considering extending working hours at more post offices across the region in the coming days.
