SRM Welkin Premier Football League Begins

22 teams across Kashmir districts are set to participate in the league

Sopore, Nov 13 – The long-awaited football league organized by SRM Welkin Educational Trust Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district finally kicked off on Monday.

The inaugural match took place between the host team, SRM Welkin, and Gulzar Memorial Education Trust (GMET), with both teams playing enthusiastically amidst a large crowd.

With cheers, whistles, and slogans, SRM emerged victorious by defeating GMET with a score of five goals.

In the first half, SRM Welkin established a strong position in the match with consecutive goals. However, GMET fought back and managed to score two goals by the end of the match.

The final score of the opening match culminated at 7/2 goals, securing a brilliant victory for SRM Welkin.

The event was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Shabir Ahmad Raina, SDPO Dr. Raies Ahmad, SHO Nisar Ahmad, Chemists President Showkat Mohiddin Lone, Industrial President Javeed Bhat, Trade Body President Haji Mohammad Ashraf Ganai, and Sopore Media President Suhail Khan, among others.

During the occasion, ADC Sopore Shabir Ahmad Raina commended SRM school management for their efforts in promoting sports activities in the town. He expressed his appreciation for the talent displayed by the young athletes and emphasized the administration’s commitment to further enhancing sports-related activities.

ADC Sopore also announced the administration’s intention to examine the progress of the Indore stadium project, which has been delayed for an extended period.

Furthermore, in response to the increasing concerns regarding drug menace among students, a special team will be formed to ensure the safety and bright future of students within and around the Sopore region he added.

Patron SRM Welkin, Haji Anaytullah, stated that this is just the beginning and that the town can expect more sports-related activities in the future, specifically for the student community. He emphasized the importance of community involvement and student participation in these tournaments.

Chairperson of the institution, Baseema Aijaz, highlighted their ongoing efforts to promote local talent and called for support from the government to not only elevate sports to a higher level but also recognize the hidden potential of students. She stressed that such sports platforms help students maintain their fitness and well-being while providing them with opportunities to shine nationally and internationally, representing their state at various levels.
