SSP Poonch Reaches Border Shahpur, Listens to Public Grievances

Date:

KD NEWS SERVICE
POONCH, Dec 25: In a continued push to strengthen community policing, public outreach, and trust-building with residents of border areas, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Poonch, Shri Shafqat Hussain, JKPS, on Wednesday undertook an extensive visit to the border village Shahpur. He was accompanied by DySP Headquarters Poonch Shri Neeraj Sharma and the Incharge Police Post Bandi Chechian, along with other police officials.
As part of the visit, a Thana Diwas was organised in the village, providing a direct platform for local residents to interact with senior police officers. During the programme, the SSP and his team patiently listened to a wide range of grievances raised by the border population, including issues related to security, policing, civic concerns, and day-to-day challenges faced by people living close to the Line of Control.
Several problems highlighted by the villagers were addressed and resolved on the spot, while others were assured timely follow-up, reflecting the responsive, transparent, and people-friendly approach of District Police Poonch. The interaction witnessed active participation from residents, who appreciated the police administration for reaching out to them at their doorstep.
On the occasion, SSP Shafqat Hussain also used the platform to sensitize the public about the growing menace of drug abuse, particularly its devastating impact on youth, families, and society at large. He stressed that drugs not only destroy individual lives but also weaken the social fabric, urging parents, elders, and community members to remain vigilant and play an active role in preventing the spread of narcotics in their areas.
The SSP further briefed the residents about the newly introduced criminal laws (NCLs), highlighting key changes and emphasizing the importance of legal awareness among citizens. He encouraged people to stay informed about their rights and responsibilities to ensure better cooperation with law enforcement agencies and smoother administration of justice.
Following the Thana Diwas, the SSP, accompanied by police officers and local residents, also visited areas along the border fence. During the field visit, issues related to border management, civilian movement, safety concerns, and other ground-level problems were discussed in detail. The police team assessed the situation firsthand and addressed genuine grievances at the site, assuring necessary coordination with concerned agencies wherever required.
Reaffirming the commitment of District Police Poonch, SSP Shafqat Hussain assured the public of full cooperation and support at all times. He urged residents to maintain close coordination with the police and to immediately share any information regarding Anti-National Elements (ANEs) or suspicious activities in their surroundings. He cautioned that any deviation, concealment of information, or non-cooperation in matters related to security and law and order would be viewed seriously in the larger interest of public safety.
The visit concluded on a positive note, with locals expressing satisfaction over the police outreach initiative. The programme further strengthened mutual trust between the police and the border population, underlining District Police Poonch’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, security, and community welfare in sensitive border areas.
